It finally happened: We have our own domain! After about a week of awkwardly guessing at how to make WordPress do what I want (and failing at most of it), we’ve finished creating this site you see before you. While there are still a lot of rough edges, we figure the site is at least usable now, and we are still planning on adding improvements to the layout as we get the hang of page templates and stuff like that. If you notice anything odd that ought to be fixed/changed, let us know! It might be a while before we get to them though, as we’ve just spent a week on this site and really want to go back to making games.

Speaking of games, we have two for you to play right now: My Beautiful AI, a game about love, progress, and existentialism, and …Wait, What Did I Just Read?, a collaborative game that is about vagueness and imagination. We’re also getting demos ready for two games: That’s the Way the Cookie Crumbles, which is about bishies, baking, and more bishies, and Ibuki Magica, which is about ripoffs exciting new ways to create a story in an already existing universe. We hope to have demos for both of these released in a month!

If you want to see what we’re up to beyond our development blog, we have a nice forum and chat room for you guys to visit, and we also have a Twitter account set up at @twinturtlegames which you can follow. (Hopefully this post will be published to Twitter, I will be very sad if it doesn’t.)

9 of 10. This one’s the final magical girl. I’m really worried about the final character, he’s going to be a pain to write well. Anyway, I should have something major related to the battle system out next week, hopefully as soon as Monday. I’ve ended up completely reworking it into something that I hope will be less convoluted and more unique, interesting, and meaningful.

Katsumi Hisoka, age 16

Background: Hisoka used to attend the same private school as Aika, but has run away from her home. She’s become elusive and secretive. No one knows where she currently lives, and she seems to do everything she can to not be seen in the same place twice. Her mother is currently in a psychiatric ward for care. It’s unknown if Hisoka visits her, or if she’d find it too risky to attempt sneaking in.

Personality: Hisoka is shy, but unlike Maya who seems to be awkward with social situations, Hisoka actively pushes people away. Her likes, dislikes, and interests are unknown, and it isn’t clear if she has any. Those who attended school with her back when she was still attending said she was pretty athletic, although not particularly good at academics. She’d always prefer to do individual competitive sports than anything on a team.

Appearance: Hisoka has roughly cut, very short dark brown hair. Her eyes are a cloudy dark brown. She’s muscular and tall, and is often teased for looking somewhat butch (She’s never given any indication that she cares.) Her PM outfit is a small, tight fitting tan dress with orange, dark red and black highlights, with black tights and gloves. She typically fights with her hands, but can use her magic to empower any object with her strength, or create ethereal copies of her foes’ weapons and spells, if they have them.

There. I managed to kick myself into working on this game and doing stuff. Witches finally attack, making this finally count as an actual game-like thing. It’s horribly unbalanced, and it’s hard for witches to actually kill you unless you try to make them. (hint) But it’s something to work with. Since it’s possible to lose, I’ve added some stuff with unconsciousness and reactions to losing, although you might not find them >_> At least now that I have some kind of basis for enemy AI, I have the core of this battle system done. Now I’m going to mess around with it, polish it, and learn from it so that when it’s ready to be added to the real game, it will be as awesome as I can make it.

Plans for next week’s release (and yes, there will be one next week):

  • Move the code to Ren’Py 6.13.7. No copypasting, I’m typing it up from scratch using my current code as reference.
  • Balance the stats, with considerations to how stats will be affected by leveling in the proper game.
  • Add and rework actions. (The “Protect” option has been doing nothing for months, I should get on that.)
  • Have some actual script done.

We’re making progress on TWCC’s baking sim aspect! We now have bakers who will work together to chop, mix, pound, cook, glaze, and frost various sweets and savories. You can tell the bakers what tasks to focus on. Since some bakers are good at some tasks and bad at others, your goal is to organize them so they focus on what they’re best at, so you can make as many delicious treats as possible. We’re still working out the finer details (I want eight task types to keep it varied, others want less to keep it simple), but at this point we have the basic details of food preparation. Since we already have the basics of purchasing done too, we only have to figure out how special sales will work, and then add small tweaks and interesting little things, and we’ll have the bakery sim finished! (Not counting balancing, playtesting, etc.)
